Haiti

Incident: strengthened security 

Due to a national curfew and heightened military presence, postal services are likely to be suspended until further notice across the country. The main airport has been shut since July 7, further impacting international postal deliveries.
 

 

Indonesia

Incident: IT upgrade

IT upgrade disrupts postal services: On July 8, Pos Indonesia indicated that delays in electronic advance data transmissions are expected between July 8 and 10 due to upgrading works of the systems at the Jakarta office.


 

Italy

Incident: strike

Italian Air transportation workers went on 24-hour nationwide strike on 6 July: the Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti labor unions called for a nationwide 24-hour strike in the air traffic sector on July 6. The protest will reportedly involve ground staff, therefore associated flight delays are expected for the duration of the strike.

 


Republic of Korea

Incident: flooding

Heavy rainfall causes flooding across Jeonnam and Gyeongnam provinces: heavy rainfall has caused flooding across Jeonnam and Gyeongnam provinces. In Jeonnam Province, flooding has impacted the counties of Gangjin, Goheung, and Haenam, including the cities of Gwangyang and Gwangju. In Gyeongnam Province, flooding has impacted the cities of Daegu and Busan.

At least 12 major roads have been closed across Busan and Gwangju due to flooding and the risk of landslides. Further rainfall is expected across the region, which may exacerbate flood conditions.

 

Samoa

Incident: coronavirus

Samoa Post informs that the Government of Samoa has extended the state of emergency until August 2.

The operator requests that all mail to Samoa be sent as closed transit through New Zealand as there is currently only one cargo flight into and out of the country per week. Moreover, the cargo flight arrives in the country late on Friday, thus all inbound mail is processed the following Monday.

 

United States

Incident: weather issues

Hurricane Elsa made landfall on the west coast of Florida, bringing heavy rainfall and flooding and causing widespread power outages.

Tampa Airport has suspended commercial flights on July 7, but has since re-opened. Delays in postal service are expected to occur over the coming days in western Florida.
