A public and a private sector union announced a 24-hour general strike to take place on May 17.

Severe storms hit Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi over the weekend, triggering tornadoes and floods that caused serious devastations and numerous road and motorway closures. A state of emergency has been declared in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Around 400 flights had to be canceled from and to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on 29 and 30 April; more than 1,500 flights were delayed.

Brazil’s main trade unions have announced a general strike. The transport and logistic union CNTTL-CUT, also representing the aviation sector, ports and public transport, has called on its members to participate as well.
