Belgium Post has informed that Brussels Airport suffered a power failure in the early hours of Thursday 15 June. Although airport operations should have been fully back to normal in the afternoon, it’s possible that there may be some delays in the processing of inbound and outbound mail as a result.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport informs about the following nationwide transportation strikes:

June 14

Techno Sky air traffic controllers in Milan Linate and Monte Settepani

June 15 – 16

Rail strike (passenger and cargo traffic) incl. Trenitalia, FSI Gruppe, Mercitalia, Serfer Rail Services, Trenord, New Transport Traveler

June 16

General transportation strike
General aviation strike
Flight crews Alitalia SAI
Flight and ground crews of airlines operating in Italy

Germany, Switzerland

Start date: 15th June
End date :  ongoing

Severe local weather with heavy rain, squalls and hail hit parts of Switzerland and Germany.
In Switzerland, the cantons of Aargau, Basel-Landschaft, Solothurn and Zurich as well as Central and Eastern Switzerland were particularly affected.
In Germany, the storms mainly caused damage in the west of the country. The Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia was primarily affected.

Greece, Turkey

A strong earthquake has struck the western coast of Turkey and Greeks islands in the Aegean Sea. The town of Plomari and the village of Vrisa (both Lesbos), where several buildings collapsed, have been worst hit. Numerous roads are impassable following landslides.

Weather conditions prompted massive flight disruptions at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). More than 500 flights to/from Chicago were cancelled.

Hong Kong

Typhoon “Merbok” has caused considerable flight disruptions in Southern China and Hong Kong. Hundreds of flights from and to Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen were or had to be canceled. Train services have also been suspended. As a result, delivery delays are to be expected.

New Zealand

New Zealand Post reports about some anticipated delivery delays over the next couple of days due to flight delays, weather conditions and late processing of Third Party freight.

Ongoing adverse weather conditions led to massive flight delays and cancellations at Shenzhen (SZX) and Guangzhou (CAN) airports.

Sri Lanka

The postal trade unions in Sri Lanka are currently carrying out a 48-hour strike which commenced at 12 a.m. on June 12. According to the Joint Postal Trade Union Front (JPTUF), all government post offices across the country would be closed  and delivery, acceptance and handling of mail would come to a standstill.

Heavy rains triggered severe flooding and a series of landslides in southeast Bangladesh, causing considerable damage to infrastructure. The districts of Rangamati and Bandarban as well as the port city of Chittagong are particularly affected.
