Heavy storms led to flooding, road closures, the suspension of train services and power cuts. Lower Austria, Styria, Salzburg, Burgenland, Tyrol and Vienna were affected.

Numerous large wildfires are raging again in central and northern parts of Portugal. The largest blaze broke out near the town of Abrantes; four nearby villages were evacuated. Several roads had to be closed, including a 30-km stretch of the A1 highway, between Lisbon and Porto. It is unclear when this section of the highway will reopen.

Severe weather in Northern Italy caused devastations, traffic disruptions, power cuts and delays in train services. Particularly affected were Cavallino-Treporti, Caorle, Jesolo, Lignano, San Michele al Tagliamento and Portogruaro. Delays in mail delivery service are expected.

Severe weather conditions caused further flight cancellations and significant flight delays at several north-eastern US airports. The following airports were particularly affected:

New York-LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
Newark International Airport (EWR)
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

Typhoon Noru has been pounding southern Japan with heavy rain and strong winds. Numerous flights and train services have been canceled. The island of Shikoku and the southern part of the Kinki region were affected. Warnings against flooding and landslides have been issued for the islands of Kyushu, Ryukyu, Shikoku and Honshu.

A powerful earthquake struck the southwestern Sichuan Province, causing severe damage to property. Many buildings collapsed or were seriously damaged. Telephone lines, the mobile network and power supply were partially interrupted. Traffic disruptions, delays in mail processing and delivery are expected.

More than half a million protesters brought Mumbai to a standstill. The protest rally seriously disrupted road and rail traffic in Mumbai.

Flooding after heavy rain has caused serious damage in the states of Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Amazonas, Sucre, Mérida and Miranda. Traffic disruptions and delays are expected in the affected areas.

A hurricane warning is in effect for Mexico’s coast from Veracruz to Cabo Rojo. Disruptions in road and air traffic are expected.

Correo Uruguayo wishes to inform that since last week it has been experiencing issues with the EDI files transmission. This problem has affected data being sent to other designated operators.

Heavy rain has caused flooding and landslides in northern Vietnam, damaging numerous roads and bridges. The provinces of Yen Bai, Son La and Lai Chau are particularly affected.
